about me!

Hello! My name is Emily English, and I am a recent graduate of Industrial Design from the school of DAAP at the University of Cincinnati. Within the field of design, I am most fascinated by the study of how people interact with the world around them, consciously and subconsciously. This curiosity has helped me find passion in the fields of experiential marketing, retail spaces, and innovative packaging.

I enjoy dedicating most of my free time to a nonprofit organization called Kesem. It is a huge part of my life

and I would love for you to learn more about it here!

Thank you for visiting my page, and I look forward

to working with you soon!

Kesem

A child's friend through and beyond a parent's cancer.

Kesem is a nonprofit organization that specializes in supporting children affected by a parent's cancer. Although we provide year-round support for these kids, the main way we aid this community is through a 100% free summer camp that is completely run by college students. Our main goal is to allow these kids the opportunity to step away from their responsibilities and impending maturity, but most importantly, we want to give them the chance to be a kid again.

My Kesem Journey

My Camp Kesem journey started when I was just 16. I and my 3 siblings were campers at Indiana University's chapter of Camp Kesem. It changed my life in more ways than I could ever imagine, and I felt beyond grateful to have been able to become a part of something so special.

When I started college at the University of Cincinnati, I knew I had to give back to the organization that gave me so much hope in a time of such darkness. Over the past 3 years, I have served as a camp counselor, volunteer committee head, Operations Coordinator, Co-Director, and overall Kesem advocate.

For 2 years, I served as the Executive Operations Coordinator for CKUC, which means that I, along with my co-coord, was responsible for taking care of all the logistics surrounding camp, including - but not limited to - programming, campsite communications, lodging, and general fun. Together, we planned an amazing 6-day schedule for these kids that included new campsite adventures, Kesem national's programming, crafts and games, along with a few of our own personal CKUC traditions.

I have recently had the honor of serving as one of our chapter's Co-Directors for the past year. This means that I (and my co-director) served as the leading authority of Kesem at the University of Cincinnati, managing our coordinators, overseeing campers and camp operations, heading up fundraising opportunities, and maintaining national standards.

As this chapter in my life comes to an end, I am beyond grateful to have been a part of this community, and I cannot wait to serve them in a new role as an alumni in the near future.
